Turn Me Into a Dove

Description

When I wrote up the story to tihs I got a little teary eyed. I guess it was just one of those phases.

~
Once upon a time, in a world of long ago and far, far away, there lived a princess born into a loving and caring family. The little princess was of a small peculiar height, usually dwarfed by those around her, with rather long elfish ears. Despite these oddities, she was loved very much by her parents.

Although she was accepted and loved by her parents, the other nobles teased her because unlike those around her she was dwarfed by their heights. Through the kidding acts of the others, it had made her very aware of her faults causing the princess to doubt herself among her peers.

One day while the shy and meek princess was walking about her family’s gardens, deep in thought, she bumped into a stranger. This unfamiliar person was one of the handsomest persons she had ever looked upon. With a polite bow and gentlemanly apology, the prince among men bided her adieu.

When she returned to the protective insides of her castle, to her surprise there was the mystery man again. He was a prince from a neighboring country. They would meet from time to time while with each visit her heart would yearn for more and more.

Several months had gone by and with her courage clutched tightly in the hands at her bosom she meekly made her way to where he stood. "I love you," the princess announced. "Do... you love me too?"

The prince's face was full of pleasant surprise giving the princess a small piece of hope. His smile was soft though his eyes seemed to slowly shine with pity as he said, “Sweet little maiden, my friendship with you has been true indeed,” he placed a warm hand upon her cold round cheek, “I am honored that you would think so dearly of me... Your heart is very pure, my lady, and were my own free to give then I would feel safe with it in your hands...but I can not, for it belongs to another."

When it came time for the prince to leave, the princess retreated to the sanctuary of her room in one of the castle towers. She climbed atop the balcony’s edge, white silks and golden hair flowing about her tiny frame as the wind whipped around her. Sad tear stained eyes never strayed from the couple that treaded from the solitary castle, side by side. As the pair leaned in close, lovers adjoined in a kiss, the little princess winced as she felt a stabbing pain in her chest.

It was then at that moment the little lady sobbed but only once as she descended head first off her high placed balcony, the feeling in her legs giving way to the suffocating emptiness.

A gentle prayer was carried along in the soft breeze, the princess spreading her arms as she fell with shining tears streaming from her eyes: “Oh compassionate wind, turn me into a dove. Please, oh please turn me, so I can leave behind this breaking heart of mine.”

This is the second or third time that i have read this, but never got the chance to comment.

This is so sad.... absolutely beautiful, but horribly sad. I hope she gets what she wishes for T_T....
